Spicy Italian Meatballs

Here’s another favourite in the Taylor household. A nice, easy, low cost recipe for Spicy Italian Meatballs!

Spaghetti with Meatballs

  • 500g Mince
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Green or Yellow Pepper
  • Handful of Mushrooms
  • 1 Tin of Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 200g Pasta
  • 4 Cloves of Garlic (or 2 tsp Garlic Powder)
  • 2 Green Chilli (or 2 tsp chilli powder)
  • Tomato Puree
  • Mixed Herbs

Making the Meatballs

Season mince with salt pepper and some garlic powder if you have any. Using a fist, need the mince until it is starts to bind. (I never use flour or egg to make the meatballs but it depends on your preferred method.)

Roll into meat balls.

I usually get about 13-14 out of 500g of mince but that can vary depending on how big you make them.

Making the Sauce

Chop the onion, mushrooms, pepper, garlic and chilli and wilt in a frying pan with a little oil on a high heat. I prefer to use olive oil.

Heat another frying pan with a bit of oil and brown off the meatballs.

Add the meatballs, onion, mushrooms, pepper, garlic and chilli to a saucepan. Add the chopped tomatoes. (If you have opted for chilli and garlic powder, add it at this point).

Add 2 tsp Mixed Herbs

Add a good squirt of tomato puree and fill the empty can of tomatoes up with water until about ¼  full and add it to the saucepan.

Bring to the boil. Once boiling, reduce to a medium heat and simmer for 15 minutes stirring regularly.

I prefer to serve with tagliatelle, but any spaghetti or pasta is fine.
